To put Chase's story into a few paragraphs is a daunting task. The short version is Chase had undiagnosed epilepsy and was incorrectly diagnosed as having ADHD. The medication Chase was on caused him to become paralyzed and he was told he would never walk again. After this devastating diagnosis, a neurologist, finally, correctly diagnosed Chase as having epilepsy. His parents, Ken and Tammy Rief, then began using cannabis to treat his seizures. Even this short synopsis can not come close to begin describing the fight that his parents went through to get Chase to the point where he was diagnosed properly. It neglects to mention that when they were treating Chase, each dose was considered a felony. It doesn't cover the countless hours spent driving back and forth to doctors, hospitals, and specialists to be shot down time and time again; told the medications just needed to be increased. It can't encapsulated the panic Chase still feels if his foot falls asleep; terrified he is paralyzed again. Most importantly, it neglects the fight Ken and Tammy had to endure keep Chase in the home after DHS attempted to remove him because of his treatment.
Chase's story is a powerful reminder that what is legal is not always just, and what is just is not always legal. Ken and Tammy to this day continue to fight to further the education and research on the benefits of cannabis and hemp, CBD, CBG, CBN, THC, and all of the other cannabinoids found in the plant.
CBD was Chase's choice, what's your choice?
